Software License and Subscription Terms

These Software License and Subscription Terms explain the difference between open-source software rights and the paid services delivered through a Rooted Dev Studio subscription.

Covered software and license basis

The plugin headers and distributed readme files identify the GNU General Public License version 2 or later as the applicable software license. Under the GPL, recipients may run, study, modify, copy, and redistribute covered code, including modified versions, subject to the GPL’s terms. Nothing on this page removes or narrows those rights.

Copyright and open-source rights

Rooted Dev Studio retains copyright in its original contributions, while granting software rights under the GPL. Copyright ownership and an open-source license can exist at the same time. Third-party code and assets remain governed by their own applicable licenses and notices.

What a paid purchase provides

The current Rooted Forms Pro and Rooted Security Pro offers are annual subscriptions for one website. A purchase provides a private license key, one active website activation, access to the applicable protected Pro package and eligible updates, and product support while the subscription and license remain active. No multi-site tier or Rooted Complete product is included unless a future checkout expressly states otherwise.

License key and activation entitlement

A license key is a credential for hosted activation, verification, download, update, subscription, and support services. It is not the copyright license for the underlying GPL-covered code. Do not publish, sell, share, or misuse a license key or attempt to bypass the purchased activation limit. A one-site activation may be moved by deactivating the original website before activating the replacement.

Renewal and cancellation

Subscriptions renew annually at the price disclosed at checkout or in the customer’s Stripe billing information unless canceled. A first-year promotion does not change the disclosed regular renewal price. Customers can use My Account to request access to Stripe’s customer portal, review invoices, update payment details, or manage a subscription.

Cancellation stops future renewal and ordinarily takes effect at the end of the current paid billing period. It does not erase data stored by a plugin on the customer’s own website. Refund eligibility is governed by the Refund Policy.

Expiration and service access

When the paid term ends or a license is canceled, expired, unpaid, paused, or revoked, access to protected downloads, updates, product support, and gated Pro functionality may end. The separate free foundation remains available under its own GPL terms. Customers should not rely on gated Pro features continuing after license expiration or deactivation.

Recovery and replacement

License recovery uses the purchase email and a short-lived verification link. Confirming a replacement retires the prior key, resets its site activations, and sends the new key to the purchase email. Customers remain responsible for keeping keys and account access secure.

Updates and compatibility

Eligible updates are available during an active subscription. We may release maintenance, compatibility, security, or feature updates, but do not promise a particular schedule or compatibility with every host, theme, plugin, browser, PHP version, or obsolete WordPress release.

Trademarks and branding

The GPL covers software copyright permissions; it does not grant rights to impersonate Rooted Dev Studio or use Rooted Dev Studio names, logos, trade dress, or branding in a way that suggests affiliation or endorsement. WordPress, WooCommerce, Shopify, Stripe, and their marks belong to their respective owners.
